Graham crackers, are they a healthy cookie?
You know the ones I’m talking about, the bland yet sweet cracker that you smash a marshmallow and a piece of chocolate between while sitting out side by a fire on a summers evening. Well, they were originally created to get rid of such indulgent behaviors and habits like sweets and reckless behavior believe it or not.
A Reverend by the name of, you guessed it, Sylvester Graham, believed that a diet full of certain restrictions would help people to live a more prosperous, less sinful life. One diet restriction was the use of wheat flour instead of white flour therefore producing darkly colored crackers. Many give credit to him as the inventor of this sweet cookie but evidence shows that the kind of graham cracker we are all familiar with wasn’t found in cook books until 30 years after his death.
I guess his “health biscuits” couldn’t keep him alive forever.
